On Tuesday, we launched the 2011 STA Travel World Traveler Internship website. This is our second year working with STA Travel on the program and we're excited as ever to be a part of it again.

For those that aren't familiar, every year STA Travel chooses two Interns from a group of applicants and sends them around the world for the summer. Along the trip the Interns take photos, record videos, share updates via Twitter, and blog, sharing all of the content on the World Traveler Internship website. This year, the itinerary includes 16 destinations: England, France, Switzerland, Italy, Czech Republic, Croatia, Austria, Slovenia, Germany, Nepal, China/Hong Kong, Thailand, Australia, New Zealand, Argentina, and Brazil.

We added some new functionality to this year's website including:

  • Flowplayer Integration: We integrated Flowplayer on the website, simplifying the process for applicants to submit their videos.
  • Registration Process: Last year we learned a lot about the registration process. To streamline the application process, we implemented a "quick registration" process that allows the user to create an account and start filling out their application without leaving the website. We've broken down the Application into four distinct sections.
  • Sharing Capabilities: We've added "Tweet" and "Facebook Like", seeing a lot of success from other campaigns we've worked on with the STA Travel team including Change Your Perspective and Eat, Pray, Love.
  • Interactive Trip page: Check out the Trip page and hover over a push pin to view details on each destination.

This year, STA Travel is sending the Top 8 finalists on a trip to Europe, then will announce the Top 2 to be the 2011 World Traveler Interns. Stay tuned to find out when the Top 50 will be revealed, and, like last year, come back to view the website during different stages of the process. Exciting things to come this year!
